The Lewis County Department of Economic Development and Planning is in the process of developing a Comprehensive Plan for the county. During the first week in August, a series of three Community Meetings will be held to introduce the public to the project, which is in the early stages. The meetings are designed to engage citizens in developing a vision for the county.
The meetings will be held at the following locations:
Croghan Fire Hall, 6855 Fire Hall Street, Croghan, NY Tuesday, August 5, 7-9pm
Lowville Fire Hall, North State Street, Lowville, NY Tuesday, August 5, 7-9pm
Lyons Falls Fire Hall, High Street, Lyons Falls, NY Wednesday, August 6, 7-9pm
The three meetings will be identical. Residents should choose which date and location works best for them.
The Plan, to be completed over the course of the next year and a half, will serve as a framework for the development of county level policy decisions, as well as providing recommendations for local municipalities. Issues to be addressed include land use, economic development, rural and farmland preservation, environmental conservation, public infrastructure, transportation and community resources. The Plan will provide a county-wide vision, as well as a set of policies, objectives and strategies for implementation.
Throughout the planning process, numerous other opportunities will be provided for county residents to participate. These opportunities include additional public meetings and workshops, focus groups, and a project website for reviewing draft documents and submitting feedback.
